Dorothy M. Lyons (nee Ernst) passed away Monday evening surrounded by her loving family at University Medical Center North. She was born on Staten Island, in Grasmere, to Vincent and Mary Ernst. Dorothy was a graduate of St. Joseph Hill Academy, the College of Staten Island and she obtained her Master’s degree from St. John’s University. Dorothy married Albert Lyons at St. Sylvester’s RC Church in Concord in 1952. She began her business career shortly thereafter working for Morgan Guarantee in Manhattan. Dorothy and Albert began their family having three children Patricia , James and Thomas. In 1968 she began her career as a teacher in St. Sylvester’s school retiring in 1997. Yet even after her retirement Dorothy continued to serve St. Sylvester’s parish as a volunteer CCD teacher and Eucharistic Minister for the parish as well as Carmel Richmond Care Center. Her enjoyments were watching both the Yankees and the Mets, her devotion to her parish of St. Sylvester’s, and her loving family. She was a member of the Ancient Order of Hybernians, and was a lover and savior of animals. Dorothy was so well adored by her students she was honored in the 2003 publication of “The Nations Most Respected Teachers.” Dorothy is survived by loving daughter Patricia Ciardeillo ( Albert ) and granddaughter Amy. She was pre-deceased by her husband Albert in 2002 and her sons James and Thomas. A viewing will be held on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Martin Hughes Funeral Home in Concord. Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Sylvester’s RC Church with the burial to follow at Cemetery of the Resurrection.
