Amelia Atanasio
1924–2025
Amelia “Amy” Atanasio was the youngest of three children born to Mary and Frank Jaccarino. After high school, her heart was quickly captured by a handsome young man from the neighborhood candy store: Eddie Atanasio. Romance followed, vows were exchanged, and life in the early 1940s felt full of promise.
Then history intervened. World War II arrived, and Eddie “A,” like any patriotic American, joined the Army. Like so many women of her generation, Amy stepped up – working in factories, praying daily, and waiting faithfully for her husband’s return. He came home scarred by battle but alive, and that was all that mattered.
Korea followed, and Eddie served again. Amy prayed again. He returned again. Together, they were proud members of the Greatest Generation and we owe them more than words can say.
After the wars, Amy and Eddie built the life they had been fighting for, raising two sons, Frank and Eddie Jr. Family became everything. Amy worked not just for a paycheck, but for her family, her faith, and others, always giving, often putting herself last.
A true New Yorker, Amy rode the subway daily from South Brooklyn to Wall Street, where she built a financial career she truly loved. In a fast-paced, male-dominated world, she was tough, sharp, respected—and admired. And when most people would have long retired, Amy kept working until age 95, helping others, staying sharp, and doing what she loved.
At home, Amy was the doting mother and quiet strength behind an all-male household. She was the family’s steady center – loving, loyal, determined, and endlessly adored. Her philosophy never changed: life is short – be happy.
And happy she was. Amy lived an extraordinary 101 years, rich in health, stamina, purpose, and love. She answered God’s call on December 19, 2025.
Amelia Atanasio is survived by her two sons, extended family, and many friends who were lucky enough to share in her long, remarkable life. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.
