Anna Garcia Obituary

Anna Luz Rosado-Garcia, 82, of Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by her beloved husband, children, siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends, Anna faced her final journey with grace and dignity.

Anna is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Angelo; her cherished brothers Louie and Anthony; her three sons, Angelo (Barbara), Frank (Justine), and Edgar; her nine grandchildren, Alyssa (Andrew), Danielle, Justin, Melanie, Peter, Junior, Aiden, Annie, and EC; her six great-grandchildren, AJ, Angelo, Anthony, Yalani, Emberlyn, and Nicholas; and her two loyal dogs, Ruby and Shadow.

Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, on July 11, 1942, Anna was the eldest of four children, including her late brother Edgar. She moved to the United States at the age of five and spent a brief period in Massachusetts before settling in New York City, where she lived for the rest of her life.

Anna met her future husband, Angelo, while growing up in the Lower East Side, and they married on August 27, 1960. Their 64 years of marriage were marked by unwavering love and dedication to their family. In 1977, Anna and her family relocated to Staten Island, where she created a home that became a cherished gathering place for family and friends.

A passionate and creative individual, Anna graduated from the High School of Fashion Industries with a diploma in pattern-making and sewing. She went on to receive a scholarship to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she honed her skills in design and garment patterns. Anna’s career as a seamstress was distinguished by her opening of a sewing school in Manhattan with her mother, followed by establishing a garment factory in Staten Island.

Anna’s contributions extended beyond her professional life. She worked for the United Federation of Teachers and taught at several senior centers, including New Lane, Forever Young, Cassidy Cole, and South Beach. Her dedication to teaching and community-building created lasting connections and friendships. She also served as a community organizer with the Department of Welfare and volunteered at Richmond Medical Center, Materials for the Arts, the Staten Island Ballet, and the JCC.

A devoted philanthropist, Anna’s generosity was exemplified during the pandemic when she made over 500 masks, donating them to Richmond University Medical Center, various medical facilities, and those in need. Her warm presence and kindness were well-known and appreciated by all who encountered her, from local diners to medical professionals.

Anna’s family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in sharing her love and joy with them. Her Staten Island home was a vibrant hub of activity, always filled with laughter and cherished memories.

Anna Luz Rosado-Garcia will be remembered for her boundless love, creative spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and strength will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
