Antoinette Gansas (Toni), 84
Antoinette Gansas beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully went to heaven at home surrounded by her family on June 5, after a battle with cancer.
Born Antoinette Napolitano in Tompkinsville, she moved to Rosebank when she was 8 years old, relocating to South Beach in 2010, and then to Forts Wadsworth in 2020 to live with her daughter. She attended St. Mary's grammar school and graduated from St. John Villa Academy High School in 1954. Antoinette worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Manhattan after high school where she met and married Andrew Gansas in 1961. She was married for 53 years until Andrew's passing in 2014. They raised 5 children together, Andrea Welch, Michael, Diane Gonzalez, Joseph and Patricia Callandra. She loved being with her 9 grandchildren and was so proud to be a great-grandmother of 2. Antoinette worked at Staten Island University Hospital for 19 years and retired in 1998. She then cared for her sister Maria until her passing in 2006. Her family was her life and always looked so forward to get-togethers and parties. She loved to go to the library and pick out a new book to read and spent many years gardening. She was also very proud to display our American Flag and enjoyed going to church on Saturday afternoons.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she lived a selfless life. Always putting others before herself. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
