It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Aiello.
"Bobbie" (as she was known to everyone) was born on February 15, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY and passed away on September 23, 2024 on Staten Island, NY.
Bobbie grew up in Manhattan NY with her parents, Anna and Charles, her sister Angela as well as her close group of cousins, aunts and uncles. She married right after high school and moved to Brooklyn NY, where she raised her 2 children, Joseph and Lori-Ann as a homemaker for 20 years. She constantly kept busy heading the PTA of her children’s school and ensuring her family was cared for. Eventually, she re-entered the workforce in the 80’s by working as a travel agent. She loved this position so much that she stayed at her firm until her retirement. Working at the travel agency gave her many opportunities to travel to many different places by plane and by ship, but her absolute favorite place to visit was Las Vegas. No slot machine was ever safe from her, and I think their fear of the feisty, 5’ tall, 100 lb. woman made them pay her off quickly so she would move on and spare them.
Bobbie always hosted holidays for most of her life and she loved having family and friends in her home. Her house was a required destination for most people, even when they had another party to attend. Caring and looking out for her family never ended, even when her children were adults with families of their own. Her entire life was spent engaged with her children, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and all of their respective families. She didn’t come from a wealthy background, yet her family never wanted for anything. Even if it was at the cost of her personally doing without. She never bothered with extravagant purchases or possessions when all she needed to make her happy was a crossword or word jumble puzzle.
In her later years, her focus was always on her three granddaughters, Kristen, Taylor and Brittany (or, “the girls” as she referred to them). Being there for them and watching them grow up was absolute joy for her. The love and joy she had for “the girls” was immeasurable and brought her so much happiness for the rest of her years.
We celebrate her life while mourning our loss. She will forever be remembered as caring, honest, strong, smart, funny and tough. But most of all, she mattered, and everyone who knew her benefitted by what she brought into their lives.
