Catherine D. Mercado

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Catherine D. Mercado, 88 years old. On March 1, 2022 she was called to heaven. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all whose lives she touched.

Cathy was born in Brooklyn in 1933. She enjoyed studying Spanish and ultimately became lead secretary at a law firm. The simplest pleasure in life brought Cathy joy. She loved a quiet evening at home with family, or a night out at the movie theater with friends. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met.

She is survived by her loving husband, Nelson Mercado of 55 years, her son Nelson A. Mercado and partner Donna DeVita and two grandchildren, Nelson G. and his wife Jessica, and Nina Marie and her fiancee Edward.

Viewing services are to be held Friday March 4 at Martin Hughes Funeral Homne in Staten Island from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm, followed by the funeral procession on Saturday, March 5th at 11:30am at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens in Woodbridge, NJ.
