Dilcia Ester Alvarado passed away on Wednesday, February 22nd following an extended hospital stay. She was born in Colón Panama on July 27th 1959 to Silviana Teresa Bill and Perry Marsden.
She graduated from Colegio Richard Newman in Panama City in 1977 where she specialized in commerce. In 1980 she received certification in secretarial accounting & business administration from Panama University. In 1979 she and her husband Javier welcomed their first son Javier Jr, their second son Jonatán followed in 1980. The family immigrated to the United States in 1981. They made their first home in Brooklyn, New York and later settled in Staten Island in 1992 following the birth of daughter Jellissa in 1990. In 1995 she switched careers from accounting and became a licensed cosmetologist. She spent her first 11 years as a hairstylist at Chrysalis salon until she opened her own salon Jon Paul Hair Design in 2006 in Grant City. She owned and operated her business until her retirement in 2021. She leaves behind her husband of 43 years Javier, sons Dr Javier Jr and Jonatán, and daughter Jellissa. She is also survived by sisters Yolanda Machado, Gladys Ford, and Bishop Graciela Marsden. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, and her influence and guidance will never be forgotten.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, March 11th at Martin Hughes Funeral Home, 530 Narrows Road South, Staten Island from 8:00am - 12:00pm. A Mass at St. Joseph Church, 466 Tompkins Avenue will follow at 12:30pm.
