Dorothy Riccardi, born on September 19, 1937, in Glasgow, Scotland, was a remarkable woman whose strength, warmth, and devotion to her family defined her life. One of five children, Dorothy made the courageous journey to America on her own at the age of 21 to work as a live-in nanny, beginning a new chapter filled with hope and determination.
Soon after arriving in the United States, Dorothy met the love of her life, her late husband, Joseph. Together they built a beautiful life and raised their three children in Brooklyn, New York, before eventually settling in Saugerties, New York. Dorothy’s greatest joy was her family, and she took immense pride in the life she and Joseph created together.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Along the way, Dorothy was blessed with three children, six beautiful grandchildren and one great-grandson, each of whom brought her endless happiness. She cherished the time she spent helping to raise her grandchildren, creating memories and offering love, wisdom, and steady support that will never be forgotten.
Dorothy had a lively spirit and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was a lifelong New York Yankees fan, loved shopping, enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, and treasured every moment spent with her family. Her resilience, kindness, and unwavering love made her an extraordinary woman who will be deeply and sincerely missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Mariana Giallanza; her daughter, Maria Ciacedo; and her son, Peter; as well as her six grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph.
Dorothy’s legacy of love, strength, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
