Elio Angeloni Obituary

Elio Angeloni, long-time resident of Brooklyn, New York, who was currently living in
Barnegat, New Jersey, passed into eternal life on November 7 th , 2024, at the age of 85.
Born in Canneto, Lipari, an island off the coast of Sicily on October 12 th, 1939, he
immigrated to the United States in 1955. Elio was the 3 rd child of Francesco and
Nunziata Angeloni. He was predeceased by his siblings Antonio, Nunziata Raffaele,
and Eva DiCostanzo, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, John Raffaele, John & Josie
Portelli, Marion & Angelo Giuffre, Giovanna & Gaetano Ziino, Bartolo & Silvana Portelli,
Frank Bagala, and is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Marie Angelone,
Joseph DiCostanzo, Josephine Bagala, and Frank & Jojo Portelli.
In 1961, Elio joined the U.S. Army achieving the rank of Sergeant. He served on
numerous bases in the U.S. and Europe. After meeting the love of his life, Marie (nee
Portelli) while home on leave, he decided not to continue a military career and instead
he proposed, and they were married on May 9 th , 1964.
In February of 1965 they welcomed their first child, Rosanne. Many years later, in
September of 1975, their family became complete as they welcomed their son, Frank.
Together they made a happy home for many years in Brooklyn, New York.
Unfortunately, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie, in 1997.
Elio was fortunate to have a loving and caring son-in-law, Jack Fondacaro and
daughter-in-law, LeighAnn Angeloni (nee Zagami). Besides his children, one of his
greatest blessings and joys are his nine grandchildren, Jack & Erin, Danielle & Joseph,
Vincent, Marielena, Francesca, Grace, and Joezette; as well as two great-
grandchildren, Lucas and Lily.
Elio worked for many years in the garment industry and served as a union delegate until
he retired in 1997. In his younger years he enjoyed playing and watching soccer and
was an avid fan of the New York Mets and New York Rangers. Having grown up on an
island, fishing was an important part of his life. When he traveled back and forth to his
hometown, he always found time to go fishing.
Elio was a quiet man, and although not very expressive it was evident that he loved and
valued his family and friends with whom he cherished every moment. All those who
knew him respected and loved him in return. He will truly be missed. He also leaves
behind many nieces and nephews.
