Felicia Mercedes Matista Cruz, a devoted mother, matriarch, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, at the remarkable age of 100. Born on July 26, 1925, in Rincón Largo, San José de las Matas, to Victorino Matista and Lucinda Nuñez, she was the fourth of twelve children. Throughout her century of life, she remained a true force of nature, known for her tireless work ethic and multifaceted talents. While she was the heart of her home, she was also an agriculturist, a skilled carpenter, a gifted seamstress, and a talented artisan who found joy in creating sculptures and paintings of Jesus and Mary. Most notably, she served her community as a dedicated Midwife, ushering new life into the world with the same steady, loving hands she used to care for her own.

Her life was a living prayer, centered on the Catholic faith and a deep devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the daily Holy Rosary. She possessed a rare combination of her sweet demeanor paired with a resilient strength and a wonderful sense of humor. Her faith was not just spoken but walked through her charitable nature and the tranquility she radiated to everyone she met. Married to her late husband, Agusto Apolinar, whom she missed dearly, she leaves behind a monumental legacy of faith, love and service. She was a mother to fifteen children, and though she was preceded in death by four of them, Ana Silvia, Juan Antonio, Juan Leonor, and Lucia Dora, her spirit lives on through the eleven who survive her and the five generations of descendants she cherished.

She is survived by her children: Inocencia Dolores, Eugenia de Carmen, Albina del Rosario, Brunilda del Carmen, Ana Mercedes, Jose Apolinar, Maria Nereyda, Rose Elvira, Amable Jesus, Maria Teresitia, and Juan Leonor (Juanito). Her love extended far beyond her bloodline to her children-in-law, whom she loved as her own, and a vast family of 47 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-great-grandchild. She leaves us with a simple yet profound legacy, be loving, be generous, use your God given talents and love God above all things.

Felicia Mercedes Matista Cruz, madre dedicada, matriarca y mujer de fe inquebrantable, falleció en paz el 17 de febrero de 2026, a la admirable edad de 100 años. Nacida el 26 de julio de 1925 en Rincón Largo, San José de las Matas, hija de Victorino Matista y Lucinda Nuñez, fue la cuarta de doce hermanos. A lo largo de su siglo de vida, se mantuvo como una verdadera fuerza de la naturaleza, conocida por su incansable ética de trabajo y sus múltiples talentos. Si bien era el corazón de su hogar, también fue agricultora, experta carpintera, talentosa costurera y una artesana que encontraba alegría creando esculturas y pinturas de Jesús y María. De manera muy especial, sirvió a su comunidad como una dedicada partera (comadrona), ayudando a traer nuevas vidas al mundo con las mismas manos firmes y amorosas que usó para cuidar a los suyos.

Su vida fue una oración viviente, centrada en la fe católica y una profunda devoción al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús y al rezo diario del Santo Rosario. Poseía una combinación única de un dulce temperamento junto a una fuerza resiliente y un maravilloso sentido del humor. Su fe no era solo de palabra, sino que se manifestaba en su naturaleza caritativa y en la tranquilidad que irradiaba a todos los que conocía. Casada con su difunto esposo, Agusto Apolinar, a quien extrañaba profundamente, deja un legado monumental de fe, amor y servicio. Fue madre de quince hijos, y aunque le precedieron en la muerte cuatro de ellos —Ana Silvia, Juan Antonio, Juan Leonor y Lucía Dora— su espíritu vive a través de los once que le sobreviven y las cinco generaciones de descendientes que tanto amó.

Le sobreviven sus hijos: Inocencia Dolores, Eugenia del Carmen, Albina del Rosario, Brunilda del Carmen, Ana Mercedes, José Apolinar, María Nereyda, Rose Elvira, Amable Jesús, María Teresitia y Juan Leonor (Juanito). Su amor se extendió mucho más allá de su linaje a sus hijos políticos, a quienes amó como propios, y a una inmensa familia de 47 nietos, 83 bisnietos, 19 tataranietos y 2 choznos (tataranietos en cuarta generación). Nos deja un legado sencillo pero profundo: sean amorosos, sean generosos, usen los talentos que Dios les ha dado y amen a Dios sobre todas las cosas.
