With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gladys Perlongo, a beloved matriarch whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. Gladys, cherished for her boundless love and the joyful spirit she brought into every gathering, passed away leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and a profound impact on those fortunate enough to have known her.
Born and raised in the vibrant city of Hoboken, NJ, Gladys was the daughter of Olympia Corizzi and Anthony Petrozelli. Her mother, Olympia, was famously friends with the mother of Frank Sinatra, adding a touch of Hollywood charm to Gladys’s own remarkable life. Summers were spent basking in the sun on South Beach's boardwalk, where she met her soulmate, Peter Perlongo Sr. Their youthful romance blossomed into a lifelong partnership when they married in 1951. Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter, joy, and countless celebrations. Their life together was marked by an unbreakable bond and a shared love for family gatherings, birthdays, and the magical spirit of Christmas.
Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who found immense joy in her family. She and Peter enjoyed many happy years together until his passing in 2005. Gladys took great pride in nurturing her family and found unparalleled joy in spending time with her grandchildren and later, her great-grandchildren, whom she held dear. Her legacy of love and care extends through the generations she cherished so deeply.
In her professional life, Gladys made significant contributions as the Secretary to the Chaplain at Fort Hamilton, where she was known for her diligence and compassion. Her retirement allowed her more time to indulge in her favorite pastimes, including trying her luck at Atlantic City slot machines, engaging in spirited card games during the holidays, and enjoying gatherings with her loved ones.
Gladys is survived by her two children, Julia Ann King and Peter Perlongo (deceased Jody Fox), her four grandchildren, Wayne (Deanna), Tracy, Christina (Nicole), and Peter, and her three great-grandchildren, Alicia, Wayne, and Jaxon. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Jaqueline Liebig and Patricia Perlongo, former daughter-in-law Roseann Perlongo, and many treasured nieces and nephews.
Gladys Perlongo’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and joy. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed but lovingly remembered for the endless joy she brought to her family and friends.
