Irene was born in the Bronx, the daughter of immigrant parents from Greece. She
matured quickly as a young teenager, as she became the caretaker for her three
younger siblings, her brother (Rocky) and two younger sisters (Rose and Stella), while
her parents worked to support the family.
After completing high school, Irene became a bookkeeper, something well-suited to her
since she was exceptionally good at math and maintaining records. She would soon
meet and marry Steve, her loving husband, whom she affectionately called “my Stevie”.
They shared a modest and successful life together raising their son, Peter, and
daughter, Georgia. Irene’s experience as a caretaker prepared her for what she
considered her most important job, raising a family of her own.
In time, Peter met and married Sandy, and Georgia would marry Ronnie. They provided
Irene and Steve with four grandchildren, Nicholas, Helena, Alyssa and Patricia, who
would then provide them seven great grandchildren - Nikos, Gabriella, Dominic, Luca,
Marcella, Santino and Delilah. Irene loved to hear stories about them and of course
brag about them too.
A resident of Carmel Richmond Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for the past 12
years, Irene was social and outgoing and especially enjoyed participating in the various
events and games provided. Irene will be missed by all.
