Isabelita Ner Obituary

Isabelita Discaya Ner (affectionately called Mama) was born on November 9, 1932, the second eldest daughter to Jordan Discaya and Luisa Arceo Discaya. Her siblings were Fermina (Mining) Discaya Soquiño, Jordanita (Nita) Discaya Relucio, Eloisa (Baby) Discaya Smith, Clara (Clarita) Discaya Kunich, Antonio (Toñing) Discaya, and Estrella Discaya Kincaid. She had a Masters degree in Education and was a teacher of English and Math at Far Eastern University for more than 30 years. She married Galicano Ner and had four children - Jordan (Danny), Joselito (Toto), Rico, and Maria Isabelle. In 1995, she came to the United States to join her daughter and take care of her two grandchildren, Raisa Alexis, who she called Sweetheart, and Rafael (Raffy), who she called Honey. She lived with them in Staten Island, New York. She walked them to their elementary school, St. Sylvester School and became a regular parishioner of the church there. She also joined the local senior center (Stapleton Senior Center) and befriended many of the seniors. She befriended every person she met - her neighbors, her doctors, her grandchildrens’ friends. That is why every year, her birthday parties were the talk of the neighborhood and the senior center, with many coming from all over to attend. Mama was kind, beautiful, loving and very independent, traversing New York City when she was able to all by herself and even flew all the way to California to visit her sisters and her niece Catherine. She could play the piano and loved to dance, with her favorite song being Shaggy’s It Wasn’t Me. She loved seafood and calamansi juice, and often gave donuts and mochi to doctors and friends. Each Christmas, she spent time with her grandchildren Joanne Cheryl and Jerome, his wife Ina, children Ava and Liam, and daughter-in-law Imelda. She often called her grandson Jeremiah (Jay) back in the Philippines. Not enough words can describe her. She prayed often and always, tuning in to her favorite channel, EWTN, for the Sunday mass. She taught her grandchildren how to pray the Rosary. God is always watching and taking care of her. Her life advice, after 91 years, is to pray always. She was (is) most beloved by everyone - her friends and family and especially by God. We miss her very much. We love you very (very) much Mama!i
