Jennie C. (Cugini) Laino
Jennie C. Laino, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and devoted educator, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born and raised in Port Richmond, Jennie was the daughter of the late Daniel and Marie (née Perosi) Cugini. She was predeceased by her cherished husband of 55 years, Frank J. Laino Sr., who passed in 2012, and by her brother Christy Cugini.
Jennie is survived by her loving sons Anthony (Maureen), Daniel (Laura), Frank Jr. (Terrianne), Joseph (Trish), and Steven (Brenda); her sister JoAnn Levesque; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren, with two more soon to arrive. Her greatest joy was her family, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, traditions, and togetherness that will continue for generations.
A graduate of Port Richmond High School (Class of 1953), Jennie went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Fordham University in 1956, followed by a master’s degree in education. She began her teaching career in the mid-1950s, working at local Catholic schools before joining the New York City Board of Education, where she dedicated more than 40 years to her students. Most of her career was spent at New Dorp High School, where she retired in 1995 after inspiring countless young people with her wisdom and care.
Outside of her career, Jennie enjoyed golfing, traveling, and spending summers in Myrtle Beach. She visited Italy three times and explored many other European countries, experiences she treasured deeply. At home, she was best known for her warmth and hospitality—especially her delicious holiday meals, which brought family and friends together around her table.
Jennie will be remembered for her generosity, her love of family, her devotion to education, and her joyful spirit. She will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
