John S. DeStefano, beloved father, and grandfather, 72, passed away on December 12, 2022
peacefully in his home. He was predeceased by his wife, the love of his life, Donna DeStefano
(nee Trapani). He was the loving father to John A. DeStefano and his wife Jasmine, and to
Joanne Figueroa and her husband Samuel. He was the dear grandfather to Samuel, Elijah, Luke,
and Noah Figueroa and John Thomas and James DeStefano and Rebecca Sinibaldi, Sarah
Gonzales, and Jonathan Perez. He was born to his parents John Michael and Josephine (nee
Musto) DeStefano on May 20, 1950 in Hoboken, New Jersey. John was raised in Hoboken,
where he often recalled fond memories he had of playing stickball and kick the can, eating at
Leo’s, and going to his Aunt Mary’s restaurant, Mary’s Open Kitchen, for her famous meatballs.
He went to Hoboken High School and St. Peter’s College where he was a member of the Alpha
Phi Omega Fraternity and graduated in 1973. He worked for many years as a banker with
Manufacturers’ Hanover Trust and later with Chase. John moved to Staten Island in 1974 after
marrying his cherished wife, Donna. As a devoted father, he loved going to all his kids’ sporting
events and cheering them on. John never tired of speaking about his grandchildren, whom he
dearly loved, and enjoyed spending time with them. He was an avid NY Yankees and NY Giants
fan. He enjoyed playing cards, especially when he would gather with his best friends to play
poker. John selflessly took care of his family and loved to stay in touch with his cousins.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00
