In Loving Memory of Juan De Los Angeles Guzman
It is with both heavy hearts and immense gratitude that we remember the life of Juan De Los Angeles Guzman, a man whose spirit of independence, love for his family, and enduring strength and pride touched all who knew him. As a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, his legacy is one of perseverance, self-cultivation and unconditional love for his family and though he has left this world, he will forever remain in our hearts. He made a conscious effort to live in peace during the final years of his life, seeking tranquility and harmony in his daily existence before his passing. We know he has found this and is resting in the sweetest peace.
Juan had a deep and abiding love for his child and grandchildren. His visits to Texas were always filled with joy as he spent time with his daughter, Diana, and his grandchildren Zoe, Gregory & Sophia. He loved nothing more than the simple moments — lounging in the yard, soaking in the fresh air, or cruising on the boat. But his true gift was in the kitchen. He would spend hours preparing meals, making sure that his daughter’s family, with their busy schedules, were well-fed and nourished. Although he did not understand the concept of children's busy schedules, he would prepare this meal on his own time which usually took from morning till evening with mini preparations of items that lasted all day long. He also liked food cooked his way and his meals were more than just food; they were an expression of his love and care, a way for him to connect with those he cherished most.
He had a playful spirit and a remarkable sense of humor that shone through in his time especially when with his grandchildren. With a mischievous twinkle in his eye, he would greet them with his signature “Hey You!” and spend hours joking and laughing with them. He also had a special fondness for the family dog, whom he renamed “Jackie Wilson,” pretending not to feed him all the scraps he could handle. It was these little moments of joy and light-heartedness that made his presence so memorable.
In many ways, Juan was a man who valued simplicity. He appreciated the small things in life — the moments when naptime came around, the opportunity for a short walk, the peace of a quiet afternoon, the satisfaction of a well-cooked meal, and the beauty of being surrounded by family. Despite the struggles he faced in letting go of the past, including the hurts he carried with him, he ultimately found peace. He realized that the only one who could forgive him and grant him entrance into heaven was God, and with this understanding, he went peacefully, knowing he was truly loved. The acts of forgiveness in his life, from himself as well as forgiveness received from others, though not always easy, became a final testament to his growth and his desire for peace. His immense sense of pride always shone through, it’s evident that, in the end, he was deeply grateful for the forgiveness he gave and received. These gestures of compassion softened his heart and gave him peace in his final days."
Serving his country in the Vietnam War, Juan knew the importance of sacrifice, loyalty, and service. He also had a deep love for Puerto Rico, a place he often visited and held close to his heart. Yet, through all of life’s ups and downs, his love for his late mother remained one of the most powerful forces in his life. He is now at rest with her, in the sweetest peace, reunited with the one who gave him life.
Juan is survived by his loving daughter, Diana, son-in-law, Gregory, grandchildren, Zoe, Gregory, and Sophia, his father, Juan, brother, Reuben, sister, Magali, and nieces and nephews, Lukeisha, Richie, Tanya, Rueben, Christopher, Jordan, Martha,Andrea and Johnny. His family will carry his memory with them always, cherishing the lessons he taught them — the importance of love, laughter, forgiveness, and the strength to move forward.
Though he is no longer with us, his love and his presence will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. May we all find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, resting with his mother, and in the presence of the Lord. Rest in peace, Juan De Los Angeles Guzman. You will forever be loved and missed.
