Lilia Cabuhat Monzon was born on September 5, 1928, in Caridad, Cavite City, Philippines, to
Cresenciano Cabuhat and Magdalena Antonio. She was the oldest of thirteen siblings. During her
teenage years, she won the title of Ms. Miranda at a festival in the Philippines, attested to her
natural beauty.
On December 18, 1949, Lilia married Romeo Monzon Sr., and together they shared 49 years of
love, companionship, and partnership. Their children—Soledad, Myrna, Romeo Jr., Nerissa, and
Johnnan—were their greatest pride and joy. In the Philippines, Lilia owned a dress shop to help
support her family. Her children often assisted her in purchasing supplies for the business,
working together as a close-knit family.
In 1986, Lilia moved to the United States, where she helped raise her grandchildren, creating
countless cherished memories with them. She had a deep love for gardening and enjoyed
planting and caring for her plants. She also had a passion for dancing, especially the cha-cha.
Age was just a number to her—she would move her shoulders and tap her feet even while sitting
down, always full of joy when listening to music. Every time she visited the Philippines, she
would go out with her friends to dance during festivals.
Lilia’s life was characterized by great love, kindness, and a constant smile. She had a unique
ability to make everyone feel welcome and special. Although we have lost a wonderful mother,
grandmother, mother-in-law, and great-grandmother, we know that we have gained another angel
to watch over us from heaven.
