Lucia "Lucy" Lapin, 71, of Staten Island, New York, was called home to God on
Sunday, June 28, 2026. She was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Lucia was born on December 13, 1954, in Bukidnon, Philippines, to Miguel and
Regina Los Banos. She was the second youngest of nine children.
Lucia dedicated 40 years of her life to her career as a physical therapist. She
graduated from Cebu Doctors' College in 1980. Her profession led her to immigrate
to the United States, where she eventually made Staten Island her home for the
past 33 years.
Lucia retired in 2024 but, true to her hardworking nature, returned to work on a
per diem basis. When she wasn't working, she was a devoted woman of faith. She
attended church several times each week and spent time praying in the chapel
almost every day. Lucy loved to travel and enjoyed trying cuisines from around the
world. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching historical docuseries. She also
had a special love for animals, especially her beloved cats, Kobi and Fred.
Lucia was preceded in death by her second husband, Nathan Lapin; her parents,
Miguel and Regina Los Banos; and her siblings, Wenceslao, Nazaria, Antonio,
Evencio, Santos, and Abundio. She is survived by her brothers, Concordio and
Lazaro; her five children, Rachel, Joseph, Phoebe, Michelle, and Benjamin; and her
three cherished grandchildren, Zamora, Reiko, and Kiro.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Martin
Hughes Funeral Home on Friday, July 10, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral
Mass will be celebrated at St. Sylvester Church on Saturday, July 11, at 10:00 a.m.
Lucia was a generous supporter of charities dedicated to helping children, animals, and the Church.
