Margaret Dawson Obituary

Margaret Breen Dawson Silvestri passed away peacefully on June 4, 2020. Margaret was born on October 12, 1927 in New York City. Margaret was the youngest of 6 siblings, 2 brothers and 3 sisters, Katherine, Rosie, Emma, Joseph and Thomas all of whom preceded her in heaven. Margaret married William J Dawson Jr. on April 20, 1947. Captain Dawson was stationed in Japan where they gave birth to their first child Christine. " 31 days on the boat" as she would tell you. They went on to have 5 more children. As an Army wife their children were born in Germany, Kentucky, Virginia, and Staten Island. After 10 years of marriage and Captain Dawson's untimely death in Germany in 1957, Margaret returned to New York where she resided in the Rosebank /Fort Wadsworth area of Staten Island . On June 4, 1964 she married Gaetano Silvestri and she had her 7th child. They were married until his death on April 13, 1993. In 1980 she moved to Marshall's Creek in the poconos until returning to Staten Island in 2010 to reside in the Canterbury house.
Margaret loved to cook and was an amazing baker !!! Margaret loved to go out for Chinese food with her children, grandkids, and great grandkids. The China buffet in the Poconos was one of her favorites !! She frequented the flea markets and dollar stores to buy gifts for her many grandkids and great grandkids. She would fill her spare bedroom with all of her purchases and every visit from the kids would turn to Christmas for them !!! Margaret loved her lakeside home in the poconos and enjoyed a nice cold one on her deck !!! Margaret loved her family and there was always a houseful wherever she was !! Her Irsh soda bread, clam chowder, and sauce and meatballs were legendary !! She would bake 50 dozen chocolate chip cookies and give them to everyone !!! Margaret was a kind, loving, giving person !!! She possessed more empathy and sympathy for her fellow man than anyone I have ever known. She always had a glowing smile and open arms and her door was open to all.
Margaret was predeceased by her sons Sean Michael Dawson and Joseph Patrick Dawson and by her granddaughter Tiffany Dawson. She is survived by her daughters Christine Basso and Cecilia DePaolo and her sons William J Dawson III, Colin J Dawson, Michael R. Silvestri and her step children Kenneth Silvestri and Jeanne Marie Zucker. Her grandchildren Marc Silverman, Scott LePre, Jessica LePre, Sean Dawson, Alycia Speigal, Lee Ann Colon Dawson, Michael J Silvestri, Emma O. Silvestri, and Anna, Sarah, and Thomas Rasmussen.
