Mary “Tina” Colandrea, 104, passed Thursday at the Richmond University Medical Center. Born to Alphonso and Sarah DeAngelis Mary was a lifelong Rosebank resident. She attended St. Mary’s grammar school and St. Peter’s Girls H.S. Mary was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and sang in the church choir for 50 years.
Mary worked as a store manager for the Lofts Candy Company for 29 years. She also took part in the stores window decorations and box design. Her next position was with the Met Life Ins Co where she was a correspondence supervisor for 12 years until her retirement in 1980.
Mary married the late Paul Colandrea in 1940. They were both proud of his service in the US Navy and honorable discharge serving from 1940-1945. He served honorably in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres on a destroyer.
As a young woman Mary loved to dance, especially the Peabody & Tango. In her later years she enjoyed travel with Paul to Europe and the western United States. She enjoyed crocheting, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, Dancing with the Stars, NY Met baseball, political debates and tv news. She loved entertaining family and friends and was said to be an excellent cook. She took great pride in her decorating of her home inside and out for the holidays.
Mary was pre-deceased by her husband Paul in 2002 and is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and her cherished companions Tengo and Irma Gvimradze.
