Mary Ann (Pidskalny) Barnes
Born and raised in the Stapleton section of Staten Island, NY on December 8, 1937, Mary Ann
was the proud daughter of Ukrainian immigrants, Peter and Pauline Pidskalny. Mary Ann
attended Curtis High School. She and her late husband, William (1980) began raising their
family in Stapleton and later moved to Midland Beach in 1962. Her sacrificial devotion to their
family exemplified profound significance and embodiments of her faith, love, strength and
perseverance.
Mary Ann’s friendly and warm demeanor led her to develop a passion for sales. She began her
career while raising her young family as a part-time (at home) sales associate for the reputable,
Arden Photographers. Shortly thereafter, she studied to become a successful New York State
licensed real estate broker working alongside the legendary, Pearl Foreman. As a female
pioneer in the real estate industry, she facilitated the sales of many prestigious properties during
the real estate boom after the opening of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge in 1964. Mary Ann
served on the Staten Island Board of Realtors. Due to her extensive expertise and her amiable,
dedicated and transparent nature, Mary Ann’s book of business was heavily based upon the
referrals of her entrusting clientele.
Mary Ann’s interests included: trips to Atlantic City and Monmouth Racetrack, interior design,
the appreciation of many music genres, attending concerts and Broadway shows, baking and
cooking.
Mary Ann is survived by her two daughters, Sandra (Barnes) Spencer and Lori (Barnes)
Giustiniani, along with her 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and a
nephew.
Her grandchildren, in particular, Kristen, Victoria, Michael and Elizabeth, “will always remember
their wonderful and beautiful Mama for her love, dedication and exemplary virtue”.
