Sinforoso Agonaga Ripotola, known to family and friends as Sim, was born in Vigan, in the northern province of Ilocos Sur in the Philippines in January 1940, the youngest of nine siblings.
In high school, he moved to the Zambales region in central Luzon to live with his sister Pepita and her family and continue his schooling. It was here that he learned the basics of cookingfrom his sister, which would launch a lifetime of making delicious meals, including one thatwould lead him to his future wife.Sim attended the University of the East in Manila, while working at a well-known local restaurant, Aristocrat, in Quezon City. He worked at the soda fountain there with close friendsand later returned to work as an accountant. He graduated college in 1965 with a Bachelor’s
degree in Business Administration. He then emigrated to the United States in 1970 and laterbecame a proud U.S. citizen in 1982. His career as an accountant in the auto industry in New York City brought him to various dealerships including Mercedes Benz, BMW, and Potamkin in Manhattan and then Plaza Auto and Bay Ridge Honda in Brooklyn.He and his wife, Gloria Payomo, married in 1975 and moved to Staten Island, where they raisedtheir daughter, Elizabeth Ann. A devoted husband and father, Sim put family first— driving with extended family near and far and bringing his talents in the kitchen to brighten countleseveryday meals and family gatherings. Sim was a sports fan, often watching local New York teams in baseball and football, and tennis.
He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and daughter as well as family and friends.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
